Drake Experience Ghana

A unique study abroad opportunity offered by Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication

Akwaaba!

An Unforgettable Experience

Drake Experience Ghana is more than just a study abroad trip, it’s an, unforgettable expedition into one of Africa’s most vibrant cultures. Drake Experience Ghana is unique among other J-term programs because real-life work experience are built into the program as short internships with some of Ghana’s premier businesses. For three weeks, completely immerse yourself in Ghana with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Watch the video to see a highlight reel of all of the fun things our last class did.

This course offers students a chance to explore, experience, and learn through active participation how media and communication-related professions, specifically Public Relations and Digital Media Production, are practiced in a significantly different sociocultural environment. Through various activities such as reading scholarly articles, attending guest lectures, on-site visits, journaling, and recording important daily events, students will learn to compare and contrast the functioning of media in Ghana.

Internships in Ghana

Students will have the opportunity to work as interns alongside professionals in media related fields during their time in Ghana. Last year’s students were paired up with notable broadcasting corporations, newspaper publishers, advertising agencies, and more.

Activities

Despite Ghana being smaller than the state of Oregon, there are plenty of things to do and see. On this trip, students will not only learn about Ghanaian history and culture, but they will also try Ghanaian food, see breathtaking views of nature, and shop at the local vendors.
